But initially, the director’s first choice was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, not Deepika for this movie. He was also finalized for the role of Mastani. In the end, it did not work.
Earlier, Aishwarya Rai acted in Bhansali’s ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ and ‘Devdas’. His performance was also appreciated. As a result, he did not mind working with Bhansali again. But the hero of this movie stood in the way.
It is heard that the director chose Salman Khan as Bajirao opposite Aishwarya. Bachchan’s grandmother did not want to work with Salman because of her past experience. In an interview with Karan Johar, he clearly stated the same thing without taking Salman’s name.
Aishwarya paired up with Salman in ‘Ham Dil De Chuke Sanam’. Salman and Aishwarya also developed a relationship behind the screen. However, the relationship was not particularly happy.
