SoSocial media platform X is testing a new subscription system. You can use the basic facilities like likes, reposts, quote other accounts and bookmark posts on the web version of X only by taking a new subscription called ‘Not a Bot’. An annual fee of one dollar is payable for this.
X said the new subscription is being introduced as part of combating bot accounts and spam accounts. The rate will vary depending on the exchange rate in each country. The system will first arrive in New Zealand and the Philippines.
Existing customers will not be affected by this change as it is a trial phase. But new account users will only be able to view tweets and videos unless they take a subscription.
Bots are a big problem on Twitter. Bot accounts and spam accounts are widely used to spread fake news, scams, etc. The company says that subscription has been introduced to prevent this. In July, Twitter restricted the number of tweets that customers without a Blue subscription could see.
Earlier, Elon Musk and company CEO Linda Yaccarino said that Twitter is going to completely switch to a subscription system. The system may be rolled out to existing customers soon. It is not clear what the annual subscription rate will be in India.
