One party to the strike, which began last Thursday at midnight, was the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists’ (SAG-AFTRA); The membership of this organization is more than 1 lakh 60 thousand.
Another association is the Writers Guild of America (WGA), which represents film, television, radio and online writers.
The third party is ‘The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers’ (AMPTP). It represents major streaming studio companies such as Walt Disney, Paramount and streaming giants such as American television networks Fox, NBC, Netflix and Amazon.
SAG-AFTRA says they joined the strike to demand the future careers of the artists.
In a press conference, they said that the threat posed by artificial intelligence and salary cuts to their workplace has not yet been resolved. Executives at streaming studios, however, say the demands of writers and performers are unreasonable.
