Entertainment Desk: After the death of actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooq, several stars started running to get his nomination for his seat (Dhaka-17). Among them, actor Siddiqur Rahman also bought nomination papers.
After collecting the nominations, the small screen actor said, ‘If our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the nomination board consider me worthy and nominate me, then I will implement Farooq Bhai’s incomplete works in this seat.’
But ending all the speculations, Professor Mohammad Ali Arafat, Chairman of Suchinta Foundation, was nominated at the Awami League Parliamentary Nomination Board meeting last Friday night. Later, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the name of the party’s nominated candidate after coming out of Ganobhaban.
Meanwhile, actor Siddiqur Rahman’s phone was switched off after the name of the candidate was announced. Then late at night, Siddiqur Rahman came live from his Facebook page and said, ‘Prime Minister did not select me for Dhaka-17 seat. That’s why I’m a little upset.’
‘But what do people do when they are upset, people go to different places. That’s why I also come to visit Dubai and shop. There are many people who find that when they are down, walking and shopping make them feel better, so do I. I am a man of Awami League, a man of Bangabandhu’s ideals and a soldier of Prime Minister’s ideals. I am a boatman. From that place, I want to say that from Dhaka-17 constituency, who has been nominated, I will really work for the people, I will work for the boat. Because I am not an outsider. I belong to Awami League,’ said the actor.
In that video message, Siddiqur Rahman also said, ‘There are 21 people with us who picked up the nomination papers to become the sailors of this boat. Among these 21 people there were people equal to my father. I want to tell them one thing – at the end of the day we want to live as soldiers of the Prime Minister, we want to live for Bangladesh Awami League. That’s why I will say, let us all be behind the boat, in the mark of development. I do whatever it takes to move the boat forward.’
This small screen actor said, ‘I want to say that if we all work for the Prime Minister who has rigged the boat and nominated him for the Dhaka-17 seat, I think it will be a true introduction of the Awami League. I hope the people of Gulshan, Banani, Cantonment and Bhashantek areas will unite and win the boat in the next by-elections.’
Siddikur said, ‘The twelfth National Assembly election is coming soon. Maybe you can see us in that election. If Hon’ble Prime Minister thinks that we are really qualified according to his eligibility criteria then he can see any one of us from here for this Dhaka-17 seat or any other place in Bangladesh. Above all, I will tell everyone that I will come back to Bangladesh soon. Everyone will be fine, everyone will pray for me so that I can return home safely.’
